Chase Away Canine Cancer 5k run/walk

October 8, 2012

Saturday afternoon I was positive that I would be doing the Leaf Peepers 1/2 marathon in Waterbury. However, in the evening my friend Miranda texted me wondering if I wanted to do a walk for canine cancer. Um, yes! Our friend Julia’s dog had canine cancer and they ended up having to amputate one of his back legs. Sirius and I wanted to show our support and do the walk to raise awareness and money for the research. 1 in 3 dogs will be inflicted with some type of canine cancer during their life. That is a statistic that I would love to see lowered. I can’t imagine Sirius having cancer or any other life than a happy, active long life. Here’s hoping!

The walk started on Dorset street at Cairns arena, which is about 2.5 miles from where I live. Sirius and I ran to the walk, walked with Miranda (everyone else was doing the 1k walk and we opted for the 5k) and then ran home. A total of 8 amazing miles! I even saw Prudence – Hi Prudence! at the walk. She opted to do the 5k run with her dog Maple.

Seen on my run to the race

Fall is definitely here in Vermont but the weather hasn’t been exactly prime leaf peeping weather. Chilly, rainy, overcast, damp and just dark seems to be the best way to describe the weather these past couple of weeks. Perfect weather for my Lesley tights though. Yesterday we did get a little hint of sunshine which was nice. Today was supposed to be nice and I had 10 miles on tap with Chris. However, I am typing this in my bed right now and that seems to be more appealing than running. It was supposed to be sunny and 50 today. Instead it is cloudy with a chance of rain. Bed seems like a much better option today. Hopefully Chris wont be too disappointed if I bail. Maybe I can convince him that running 10 miles is not a good idea but baking pumpkin chocolate chip gluten free bread is a much better one. We’ll see.
