Salt is oh so clarifying

August 15, 2012

I came home from a crazy day at work, changed and headed back out the door to meet up with Chris for a therapeutic run. 6 miles later I felt recharged and alive again. I spent the rest of the night packing for my beach weekend and I am reminded about what Kristen Armstrong wrote in her book, Mile Markers,“There is a quotation by Isak Dinesen that I love: ‘The cure for anything is salt water—sweat, tears, or the sea.’” How true that is. Sometimes you need a good cry, sometimes a good run and sometimes you need to hit the sand and surf.

Chris and I from this past weekend’s pirate 5k run

These past few weeks have been hectic ones. Work has been absolutely insane, Alan’s work has been absolutely insane and not to mention we have had company and things going on every weekend with weddings, bachelor parties, family in town etc. etc. etc. I love everything that we have been doing. I wouldn’t trade a second of the chaoticness for anything, ok maybe less chaotic at work, but otherwise it has been good chaos. However, today, Chris and I both needed therapy in the form of our Mizuno’s pounding on the pavement.

The amazing thing about having a running partner is that they don’t consider you crazy with your nonsense that you spout about during a run. Danielle can attest to that! There is just something so great about being friends with someone and sweating minutes and miles away with them while jabbering on and on about the craziness of your life. Chris and I both needed to vent and vent we did. After our run I felt cleansed and awakened and ready for so much more out of life. I guess that is why I love to run so much. At the beginning you feel shy and timid and unsure of how the run will turn out. At the end you feel alive and powerful and ready to tackle on anything that might come your way. I feel like running makes me a better person and a better friend. Thank you, Chris for an amazing run. Now all I need to be complete is for Danielle to get back from her own beach vacation, get the go ahead from her doctor to start exercising again and I will have both my running buddies back in action!
