Running and Races
It has been a little bit since the last time that I posted. Sorry about that! July is always a busy month in our house. July indicates many things, Alan’s birthday, my birthday, brew fest, 4th of july, Maine vacations and just hot weather and trying to keep cool! This July is no different. I feel like it just begun and we are already at the tail end of the month. Isn’t that how every month has been going lately though!
Through this hectic month I have been trying to keep up with running without burning out. I could obviously be better with my running but can completely admit that I have been somewhat slacking in the running department. It has been unseasonably warm in Vermont and it makes it so hard to get motivated to head out after work only to sweat buckets for an easy 4-6 miler. The alternative is to wake up early and head out for a run before work. I never regret doing that but getting motivation to get out of bed sometimes is difficult to say the least. I have been trying to self motivate but having races planned i helpful.
Thursday night my friend Jamie asked if I had heard about the Essex half marathon. Having grown up in Essex I like to think of myself as the all knowing person about anything Essex related. However, it has been too many years than I like to account for since I graduated high school and moved out of my parents house. I clearly am not up to date on the ins and outs of Essex any longer. I was glad to know that after googling Essex half marathon that this is its first year hosting this event. I am not too far behind the times after all! I also really like jumping onto races in their first year and starting an annual trend of running that race – ie Mad Marathon! So I signed up without too much thought or hesitation.
I am super excited for this because it is on somewhat my home turf. It starts and ends at Essex High School, my alma matar. I am using the race as more of a long run with aid stations and potential for cheering along the way. Plus, you get a t-shirt and a medal. Bonus, will run for hardware! I’m not really planning on racing this event hard as I still have pretty dead legs from the marathon and then the mad. My goal race is still almost two months away and I don’t want to waste steam on a non goal race. If that makes sense at all. So that is my plan for next Sunday. It should be interesting since on Friday night I have a wedding to attend to and might be pretty lazy on Saturday. Oh well, I will call it resting my legs for the race!
