Trying Harder
Yesterday I got up early and banged out 4 tough miles. I tried to be uncomfortable the whole time and really pushed the pace. I enjoyed the intensity of the workout but not so sure Sirius enjoyed it. Poor dog was panting and a few steps behind me the entire time.
Considering that mile 2 had two TOUGH hills I will take the 8:40 min/mile
After work I headed to the gym and had enough time for 2 more fast miles. I started at 7.5 mph and ended at 8.0 mph. I tried to bump up the speed during the chorus of fast paced songs. It’s my go to speed/interval workout and seems to keep me less bored then just watching the distance and bumping up the pace that way. 2 miles in under 16 min.
These short, high intensity runs will hopefully help get my overall pace up and get me closer to snagging a new PR at the Montreal 1/2. It is so much different to run fast than it is to run far. I was complaining to someone how marathon training wiped me clean of any speed I might have had in my legs. They told me that when you are training for new personal distances, especially the marathon, you can’t have the distance and the speed. Sometimes you have to give up one to get the other. I am hoping that since I can cover the distance now all I need to do is to get my speed back and I can really crush some miles!
We shall see. I have a little over two months before the Montreal 1/2 and hope that is enough time to shake my legs up and get them turning over faster. A one second PR is still a PR, right!
