Night before…

July 7, 2012

It’s the night before the Mad Marathon (I’m doing the 1/2) and everything is set to go. My Gu’s are packed, my pre race breakfast is in my bag – Picky Bars!!!! alarm is set and I have my outfit laid out. That is basically where my pre race night before tradition ends.

For some reason this race totally snuck up on me. Maybe it had to do with being out of town for a week, the lack of running that I have been doing this past month or just the sheer nonchalance that I have felt towards this race since before I signed up. Not to mean that I regret signing up. It’s just that for four months I had strict dedication to the marathon. In a sense I feel like I let myself down with the marathon and the time that I finished in. Yes, I finished and finishing is a huge accomplishment etc. etc. However, my time was no where near my goal time. In a sense I feel like I “wasted” my time by putting in so much time and effort. Obviously if I didn’t put in as much time as I did my time and the experience would have been way worse than it was.

Clearly I should have put in more time and effort! During the four months though I lost the funess of running (yes, funess is a word I just made up). I know running can’t be all fun and games. Running takes hard work and dedication.  I just sometimes need a balance of fun and hard word. Which I guess is where the Mad comes in. I just wanted to treat this as a fun run and no stress – mission accomplished! I feel no stress what so ever. I probably should be a little nervous to finish the race as I definitely have not run more than 7 miles since the marathon. Clearly, it is late (for me) and the night before a race and I am making no sense what so ever…

We shall see how this goes….
