Sometimes you just need a break
This past week Alan and I headed up to Maine. His family has a camp on Clearwater Pond outside of Farmington, Maine. To say it is the easiest place to relax is an understatement. It is one of the only places that I know of that you get no cell reception, there is no television and there is only the great outdoors to enjoy. Enjoy we did. Running, I did not. I needed a break mentally and physically. Ever since the marathon I have had aches and pains and I just needed some time off to heal a little more before really diving into a new routine and pushing my fitness. I know Jamie wont go easy on me so I had to make sure I was ready to go hard.
We got into town on Friday night and after unpacking and setting up shop we called it a night. I knew that I would be getting up early on Saturday to head into town to get groceries for the week and wanted to beat the Saturday morning “rush”. I made my list, checked it twice and added a whole lot of stuff that wasn’t on the list into the cart as well. Alan and I spent much of Saturday lounging on the docks and reading in the screened in porch. Pure heaven. We did much of the same on Sunday as we knew that shenanigans and debauchery were upon us. Our friends, Joe and his fiance, Beth, were heading up to Maine on Monday to join us for some peace, tranquility and drinking for a few days.
Beth and Joe in Maine
Monday Joe and Beth arrived around 6 and we immediately took them outside to do a cruise around the lake and have cocktails and apps before dinner would be served. It was an amazing evening for all the above.

After dinner we intended on playing a round of Cards against Humanity but instead we played every card in the game since it was so fun!
It truly is a card game for horrible people, and so much fun!
View from the stern of the boat? Prowl? I know no boat terminology at all!
Tuesday Joe, Beth and I headed into town. We heard rumors that there was a small hole in the wall type of place that had an amazing beer selection. The locals did not disappoint us. Who knew that Farmington, Maine had such a mecca for great craft brews? Bonus, They also had Maine Meade Works as well.
After hanging out for a bit on Tuesday and being lazy we decided to make Wednesday more spectacular. With it being the fourth of July and all we wanted to get in some fun in the sun action. We took to the lake with our Kayaks and had a blast.
Nothing like Kayaking with some hydration!
Some more photos from the trip: All photos in this blog post are courtesy of Joe, who is not only an amazing photographer but an amazing brewer! If you are local in the Burlington area check out his community supported brewing (CSB) much like a CSA is for food this offers 13 beers throughout the year. Trust me, you will want to be apart of this. Alan and I bought two shares – trust us, it is totally worth it!
